ResurFX Laser Resurfacing
Non-ablative fractional laser for scarring, texture, and fine lines.
Includes 30 minutes of topical numbing, which is standard for this treatment.

Lumenis ResurFX™
A fractional, non-ablative laser handpiece used to create controlled treatment zones while leaving surrounding skin intact.
ResurFX is a non-ablative fractional laser. It sends columns of energy into the skin to trigger collagen rebuilding while leaving the surface intact, so recovery is measured in days rather than weeks. Its 1565 nm wavelength is absorbed by water rather than pigment, which makes it usable on skin tones where IPL would be risky.

What it does
Improves depressed acne scarring

What to expect
Assessment
Your skin is examined and settings planned. Recent sun exposure, isotretinoin use within six months, and any history of keloid scarring or cold sores are asked about — each changes what is safe.
Numbing
Topical anaesthetic is applied for 30 minutes. This treatment is more intense than IPL, so numbing is standard rather than optional.
Treatment
The scanner passes over the treatment area with integrated cooling. Most people describe a hot prickling sensation. Twenty to thirty minutes for a full face.
Aftercare
Skin will be red and swollen, and will feel like sandpaper for several days as the treated columns work to the surface. Gentle cleanser and moisturiser only, no active ingredients for a week, and daily sunscreen without exception.
04
Is it right for you?
Good for
- Depressed acne scarring
- Rough texture and enlarged pores
- Fine lines and early laxity
- Deeper skin tones seeking resurfacing that IPL cannot safely deliver
Not suitable if
- Isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the past six months
- Recently tanned skin, within the past two to four weeks
- A history of keloid scarring
- Pregnancy
- Active infection, cold sores, or inflammation in the treatment area
Downtime
Redness and swelling for one to three days — more visible than IPL and worth planning around. Skin then feels rough, like fine sandpaper, for about a week as the treated tissue works its way out. Makeup can usually be worn after 48 hours.
Results
Texture starts improving around two to four weeks, and collagen continues remodelling for three to six months after a course. Three to five sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is typical for scarring.

Common questions
What is the difference between ResurFX and IPL?
They target different things. IPL is absorbed by pigment and blood vessels, so it treats colour — brown spots and redness — at the surface. ResurFX is absorbed by water at 1565 nm, so it reaches deeper and treats structure: scarring, texture, and fine lines. Because it ignores melanin, it is also the safer choice on deeper skin tones. Many treatment plans use both for different problems.
Is ResurFX safe for Asian and darker skin?
It is markedly safer than IPL or ablative lasers for higher-melanin skin, because its wavelength is absorbed by water rather than by pigment — so melanin-rich skin does not absorb disproportionate energy. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is still possible, which is why settings are kept conservative across more sessions rather than pushed in fewer.
How does it compare with microneedling for acne scars?
Both rebuild collagen in depressed scars. ResurFX generally works faster and reaches deeper, at the cost of more downtime — one to three days of visible redness against microneedling's 24 to 48 hours. Microneedling is gentler and cheaper per session. Deeper or older scarring usually justifies the laser; mild texture often does not.
How much downtime should I plan for?
Plan for a visible day or two. Redness and swelling peak in the first 24 hours, settle substantially by day three, and skin feels rough for about a week. Makeup can usually go on after 48 hours. Do not book this in the week before an event.
How many sessions will I need?
Three to five, spaced four to six weeks apart, for scarring. The interval is not padding — collagen remodelling takes weeks, and treating again sooner adds injury without adding result.
