Pores & Uneven Texture
Pores cannot be shrunk, but they can be emptied and tightened.

Pore size is largely genetic and fixed. What changes is how visible they are: a pore stretched by trapped oil looks far larger than the same pore cleared, and skin that has lost collagen around a pore loses the structure holding it closed. Treatment works on both — clearing the congestion and rebuilding the support.
01
Why it happens
Oil and dead cells accumulating inside the pore and stretching it open
Collagen loss around the pore, so the surrounding skin no longer holds it closed
Genetics and oil production, which set the baseline and cannot be changed
Sun damage degrading the collagen scaffolding, which is why pores look larger with age

Common questions
Can pores be permanently shrunk?
No, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling something. Pore size is genetic. What treatment achieves is emptying the pore and rebuilding the collagen around it, which makes it substantially less visible — a real and worthwhile change, but not a smaller pore.
What actually works for large pores?
Two things in combination. Clearing congestion — through extraction facials or salicylic acid peels — stops the pore being stretched from inside. Building collagen around it, through microneedling or fractional laser, restores the structure that holds it closed. Doing only the first is why pores look better for a week and then return.
Do pore strips help?
Only briefly, and they can make things worse. They pull out the top of the plug and leave the rest, and the tearing action can stretch the pore further. Regular gentle exfoliation and professional extraction do the same job without the damage.
How long until texture improves?
Clearing congestion shows immediately. Collagen work is slower: two to four weeks for the first visible change and three to six months for the full effect after a course. If a treatment promises smooth skin overnight, it is clearing the pore, not rebuilding it.
