Device we use

SkinPen® Precision

Its adjustable treatment depth allows the practitioner to work precisely across different facial areas while using a sterile, single-use cartridge.

Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels in the skin with fine needles, which prompts it to rebuild collagen where it has been lost. It is the standard approach for depressed acne scarring — the kind that dents inward — and works over a course rather than in a single session.

01

What it does

  • Improves depressed acne scarring

  • Reduces the appearance of enlarged pores

  • Smooths uneven skin texture

  • Uses your own collagen rather than adding material

What to expect

  1. Assessment

Your skin is examined and your history taken. Recent isotretinoin use, active breakouts, and a history of cold sores each change the plan, so these are asked about specifically.

  2. Numbing

Topical anaesthetic is applied and left for 20–30 minutes — which is why the appointment runs longer than the treatment itself.

  3. Treatment

The device passes over the skin section by section. You will feel vibration and pressure rather than sharpness. Depth is adjusted by area — the forehead and around the eyes are treated more shallowly than the cheeks.

  4. Aftercare

Gentle cleanser and moisturiser only for 48 hours. No retinol, acids, or scrubs for about a week, and daily sunscreen throughout. No makeup for 24 hours.

04

Is it right for you?

Good for

  • Depressed acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Early fine lines

Not suitable if

  • Active acne breakouts in the treatment area
  • Isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the past six months
  • A history of keloid scarring
  • Eczema, psoriasis, or infection at the treatment site
  • Pregnancy

Downtime

24–48 hours of redness resembling mild sunburn, sometimes with slight swelling on the first day. Most people are comfortable at work the next day, and makeup can be worn after 24 hours.

Results

Skin looks brighter within about a week. Collagen remodelling is slower — texture and scarring keep improving for three to six months after a course. Three sessions four to six weeks apart is the usual starting plan.

Common questions

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

Three sessions four to six weeks apart is the usual starting plan. Acne scarring often needs more — sometimes six. The interval matters as much as the count: collagen remodelling takes weeks, and treating again sooner does not speed it up.

Does microneedling help acne scars?

Yes, for depressed scars — the kind that dent inward — by rebuilding collagen in the depression. It does not treat raised scars or post-inflammatory pigmentation, which need different approaches. A single session will not resolve established scarring; a course is required.

How long does redness last?

24 to 48 hours for most people, looking like mild sunburn. It is most noticeable on the first evening and substantially settled by the second morning. Makeup can be worn after 24 hours if you would rather cover it.

Can I have microneedling if I have active acne?

Not over active breakouts. Needling through an inflamed lesion risks spreading bacteria and worsening it. Active acne is treated first, and scarring is addressed once the skin has settled — areas of the face that are clear can sometimes be treated in the meantime.

Is microneedling safe for Asian skin?

Yes — microneedling carries less pigmentation risk than light-based treatments because it uses no heat or light energy, which is what triggers post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in higher-melanin skin. It is often the preferred option for texture work on deeper skin tones for exactly that reason.
