Sculptra®

A collagen-stimulating injectable selected for gradual, natural-looking improvement rather than immediate filler-like volume.

Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid. Unlike a filler, it adds almost nothing on the day — it prompts your own skin to produce collagen, and the volume appears over the following months. That makes it slower than filler and, for the same reason, harder to spot: there is no day on which someone's face visibly changes.

01

What it does

  • Restores volume in the cheeks and temples

  • Results can last up to two years

  • Works through your own collagen rather than added material

  • Gradual onset, so the change is not obvious to others

Most treatment plans involve two to three sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number needed is determined at consultation. Prices are subject to change.

What to expect

  1. Consultation

A licensed injector assesses where volume has been lost and confirms Sculptra is the right choice — for a dynamic line, a neuromodulator is the appropriate treatment instead.

  2. Preparation

The area is cleansed and topical numbing applied. Numbing is used more routinely here than for neuromodulators.

  3. Injection

The product is placed across the treatment area in a series of injections, then massaged to distribute it evenly.

  4. Aftercare

You will be asked to massage the treated area yourself for several days, and your injector will demonstrate exactly how. This is not optional — it is what prevents the product from clumping, and skipping it is the most common cause of an uneven result.

04

Is it right for you?

Good for

  • Gradual volume loss in the cheeks or temples
  • Overall facial hollowing rather than a specific line
  • Anyone who wants a change nobody can point to

Not suitable if

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Active skin infection or inflammation at the injection site
  • Known allergy to poly-L-lactic acid
  • Anyone who needs a visible result for a specific date within weeks

Downtime

Mild swelling and occasional bruising for a few days. Some swelling immediately after treatment is from the injection fluid rather than the result — it settles within about 48 hours, and the actual change comes much later.

Results

Nothing visible for the first few weeks, which is expected. Collagen builds over three to six months and continues after the course finishes. Results can last up to two years.

Common questions

How many Sculptra sessions do I need?

Two to three sessions spaced several weeks apart, which is why a course of three is offered at $2,399. Because Sculptra stimulates your own collagen rather than adding volume directly, the effect accumulates across sessions instead of appearing after the first.

How is Sculptra different from filler?

Filler adds volume on the day and can be dissolved if you dislike it. Sculptra adds almost nothing on the day, builds volume over months through your own collagen, lasts far longer, and cannot be reversed. Filler suits a specific hollow you want corrected now; Sculptra suits overall volume loss you want to address gradually.

When will I see results?

Three to six months. If you are looking for a change before an event in a few weeks, this is not the treatment — the timeline cannot be shortened, and any swelling in the first days is the injection fluid rather than the result.

Why do I have to massage my face afterwards?

Massage keeps the product evenly distributed while it integrates. Skipping it is the most common cause of small firm lumps under the skin. Your injector will show you the technique and how often — follow it for the days they specify, not fewer.

Can Sculptra be reversed?

No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, there is no dissolving agent. That is a genuine consideration and a reason to start conservatively — the effect is your own collagen, and it fades on its own schedule over roughly two years.

Who should not have Sculptra?

Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with a history of keloid scarring, and anyone with an active infection at the treatment site. A keloid history is a specific contraindication for Sculptra in a way it is not for neuromodulators.
